So you’re looking for a job?

Looking for a job?

We could re-list every single job currently available on/off line but that would be an incredibly long list and would not really be helpful to most people. What we would like to do is offer a few suggestions to how you might go about job searching as productively as possible.

There really are some amazing schemes and support agencies out there, as well as us :o )

Have you thought about registering with an agency?

Last time I did a search for “employment agencies” there were 1,110,000 pages related to this search in the UK.

Agencies cannot exist unless they place people in sustainable jobs”

They also allow the facility of “Job alerts”

By far, these are much easier than typing out the same search requirements over and over again. Most job search engines and websites have the facility for you to create an account and have email alerts sent to you whenever suitable job vacancies arise. These are usually free so why not make the most of them?

If you find you are not getting useful results back from your saved searches refine them further to what you really want. You may want to set up more than one saved search, one for the “ideal” job and another for jobs you would like to do while you continue the search for a better job.

What type of job you would like?

There are two types of job seekers – those that know where they want to be going and pitch themselves as much as possible in the right arena’s, and those who are looking for “a job” and have no idea about what type, or what conditions they would like to work under.

If you don’t know where you’re going, how are you going to get there??

A long term job goal is important, however, short and mid term plans will motivate, sustain and develop you towards that goal.

It could be that your long term goal requires specialist qualifications, licenses or professional experience – volunteering could be a good 1st “rung on the ladder” while you work to get what you need…

even the journey of a thousand steps must start where you stand”
